Octavine Illustration
Octavine was my great-aunt. Born in New York City at the dawn of the Jazz Age, she embodied Depression-era sensibility and possessed a penchant for the unique. For my eleventh birthday she gave me a calligraphy set. This gift allowed my artistic sensibility to blossom and reveal what is now my passion; the timeless art of hand-wrought font intermingled with organic forms. Thus began Octavine Illustration.
Born and raised in New Mexico, Cara Buchalter of Octavine Illustration currently resides in beautiful Portland, Oregon. Seeking to recapture the romance of the 1920s and 30s, her illustrations and calligraphy are completely hand-wrought. Garnering inspiration from the sensuous lines of Art Deco haute couture, classic silhouettes of sleek sophistication, Ms. Buchalter imagines the era of Hollywood beauty queens, the Chrysler Building and the Duesenberg when style and craftsmanship reigned supreme nurturing the creation of a product solely for its beauty.
